Guide
How to make flashcards that work
Five rules that decide whether a deck helps on the exam.
- 1
One idea per card.
A card that asks one thing can be answered in a few seconds. If the back needs a paragraph, split it into two or three cards.
- 2
Put a question on the front.
"What does the mitochondria do?" makes you recall. A bare term on the front works too, as long as you answer before you flip.
- 3
Write the back in your own words.
Copying the textbook sentence is easy to recognise and hard to recall. Short and in your words is what you will remember on the exam.
- 4
Say the answer before you flip.
Out loud or in your head, commit to an answer first. Flipping straight away turns the deck into rereading.
- 5
Come back to the cards you missed.
Keep the misses in their own pile and go through it again until it is empty. Then review the whole deck a day later, then a few days after that.
Rule five is about timing. Plan when each topic comes back with the free study schedule maker, or let Orbind bring every card back on its own day. Try it for $0.
Questions
Flashcard maker FAQ
How do I make printable flashcards?
Type or paste your cards above, one per line as term - definition. Pick a layout and press Printable PDF. Print the PDF, cut along the dashed lines and your cards are ready.
How do I print double-sided flashcards?
Choose Double-sided. The PDF puts the fronts on one page and the backs on the next, mirrored so they line up. In the print dialog turn on two-sided printing and pick flip on the long edge. No duplex printer? Choose Fold in half instead.
What size are the printed flashcards?
About 3.75 by 2.45 inches, eight to a US Letter sheet in the double-sided layout. Fold in half gives four cards a page, each 7.5 by 2.45 inches before folding.
Can I import my flashcards into Quizlet or Anki?
Yes. Press Copy for Quizlet or Anki and paste into Quizlet's Import box (tab between term and definition, new line between cards) or Anki's File > Import. Download CSV gives you a spreadsheet file instead.
Is this flashcard maker free?
Yes, with no sign-up and no limit beyond 300 cards at a time. Your cards never leave your browser; they are remembered only on this device.
Can I make flashcards from my notes automatically?
Not on this page, which only formats what you write. Orbind does that part: drop in lecture slides, a PDF or a YouTube lecture and it writes the cards and short lessons for you.
